Postdoctoral Research Scholarships 2012 Open for International Students: No

Scholarship Description: Both posts will be based in the Bristol Glaciology Centre and School of Mathematics. The aim of the project is to produce a statistical spatial-temporal reconstruction of Antarctic mass trends, synthesising complementary measurements from (i) radar and laser altimetry, (ii) mass budget estimates, (iii) satellite gravity measurements (GRACE), and (iv) vertical motion from GPS. This synthesis will also provide an estimate of glacio-isostatic adjustment, and pave the way for more accurate projections of the Antarctic ice-sheet contribution to sea-level rise. In both posts, a background in some aspect of environmental sciences would be advantageous but not essential. For Post 1 (up to three years funding), you should have experience in the analysis, interpretation, and visualisation of satellite datasets such as altimetry, GRACE and/or SAR. For Post 2 (up to two years funding), you should be familiar with techniques used for the analysis of spatial-temporal data, preferably in earth observation or climate modelling. For this post familiarity with geo-statistical methods and computation would be advantageous.
